Admission Process

Admission Process

We are very happy that you are considering applying to St. John’s.

Our schools are carefully designed to promote intellectual growth and provide a healthy and balanced education for children and teenagers. Here, our students acquire new skills, discover their talents, cultivate a love of learning, and develop their curiosity through our inquiry-based approach.

Please find below the steps of our admissions process:

1. Application Form

The first step is to complete the Application Form and send it to our admissions team via email: secretaria@stjohns-brazil.com. This allows us to identify the campus of your interest — St. John’s International School (Primary, Secondary & Senior) or Little John (Infants) — and verify the availability of places.

2. School Visit

The second step is to schedule a visit to the chosen campus. Please contact us so we can arrange a meeting and introduce your family to our learning environment and educational approach.

3. Student Assessment

Assessments vary depending on the student’s age group and educational stage:

• Infants (ages 1 to 5):

The child will be invited to spend a day at school prior to or shortly after enrollment, during which we will observe their language exposure (English/Portuguese) as well as social, emotional, personal, and physical development.

This is a gentle and playful experience meant to help the school understand the child’s profile.

• Primary (ages 6 to 10):

The student will participate in an informal interview in both English and Portuguese, scheduled either before or after enrollment.

This assessment allows us to understand their current language level and recommend the appropriate Cambridge preparatory course and any additional English or Portuguese tutoring that may support their learning throughout the semester.

Assessment of social-emotional and physical development (PSPE) will continue once the student is enrolled, to better support their adaptation and growth.

• Secondary (ages 11 to 14):

Students will be invited to take a placement assessment at St. John’s, covering the following subjects:

• Mathematics (Brazilian and British curriculum)

• Mathematics (Brazilian and British curriculum)

• Mathematics (Brazilian and British curriculum)

These tests help us determine the student’s academic level and may guide the school in placing the student in the most appropriate year group, especially in subjects where skills and content progression are required for success.

4. Family Interview

The final step is a meeting with the family and student.

This conversation is essential for us to understand each family’s educational values and expectations, as well as the student’s learning style.

It helps us build a meaningful and personalized connection between the student and our teaching approach.
